In the early morning hours of Sunday August 30 at 6:35am, the Hagaman Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a possible Structure Fire at 77 North Pawling St, Village of Hagaman - Green Fiber Industries. Car 218 was first to arrive on scene and confirmed a working fire with smoke showing from the front bays of the building. Additional information stated all employees had evacuated but the fire was spreading. Mutual aid was initially requested for 1 Engine and 1 Tanker from Cranesville and Ft Johnson Fire departments. Initial crews on Engine 5 made entry through the front bays and were able to quickly contain the fire to the area of origin. Additional crews from Tower 9, Engine 3 and Rescue 4 assisted in extinguishing the materials on fire. Crews from Tower 9 also checked the roof for any extension through the vast array of duct work connected to the equipment.
Green Fiber which produces blown insulation uses large hoppers and equipment to fill and bag their product for sale, making it difficult to extinguish a majority of fire that was inside the equipment. Manpower from Cranesville and Ft Johnson helped with overhaul and ventilation of the building. Water supply was established with the mutual aid companies at the entrance to the building as well as a fill site down the road. Tankers from Hagaman, Ft Johnson and Cranesville shuttled water from the fill site to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation however it appears to have started from a jam inside one of the hoppers where the finished product was bagged.
Hagaman Units Engine 5, Tanker 7, Tower 9, Engine 3 and Rescue 4 responded with 29 members present.
Also responding to the scene was the Montgomery County Sheriffs Department, Montgomery County Fire Coordinators, and GAVAC. Perth Fire Department was on cover assignment in our station, while Tribes Hill and Ft. Hunter were on standby for Ft Johnson.
All units were cleared and back in service at 9:13. There were no injuries.
